The City of Ice

Gates of the World, #2

I did not get an opportunity to read the first book in this series, but I enjoyed this sequel.

The Kressind siblings all seem to be in the thick of things at all times. And generally it is because of the choices they make.

Trassan has a great iron ship and is exploring areas uncharted. Garten has become an important person in politics, especially after an unexpected event that throws him in the middle of chaos. Katriona is fighting for those who are in sweat shops after an eye-opening experience in her life--willing to take on some of the most powerful men in order to gain their freedom. Guis has been overtaken by a demon who loves to cause problems. Rel, who was blackballed from society, makes his way back through the desert with new friends in order to stop an oncoming war. And cousin Ilona has stole away onto Trassan's ship and has found a new and exciting way of life.

All of this happens while the evil Draathis begin their decent onto the world to kill and take over. It has been prophesied and is coming to fruition. Now the world must prepare for a bloody and vicious war with the Kressinds in the front.

Not only is the world expansive and detailed but the characters are well filled out and unique. Not only the Kressinds but also Mage Vols, The Morfaans, Asteria (the best swordsman in the world) and the Duke Infernal who had his own story-line being shaped and detailed. Leaning what I have about him, I am quite interested in what role he will play amongst the Kressinds in the next story, because they will undoubtedly all be brought together during the final battle. I have my theories but will leave them be for now until I read the next installment.
